Pirates Extend Makhehlene Makhaula’s Contract

Orlando Pirates midfielder, Makhehlene Makhaula, is set to remain at the club until the next season.

Last October, it was reported that Makhaula – who had eight months left on his current contract at the time – was reportedly considering leaving Pirates for another team because coach Jose Riveiro was not giving him enough game time.

The 34-year-old’s contract included an option for an extension once it expired in June this year – now, it appears that Riveiro and the club’s higher-ups have exercised this option.

“Makhaula is staying at Pirates,” his agent, Sizwe Ntshangase, said in an interview with a local media outlet that was published on Sunday, 14 January. “The club have extended his deal and his new contract will expire at the end of next season. If there is a team that is interested in his services, they must go talk to Pirates.”

In other words, clubs such as Cape Town Spurs and Richards Bay FC will need to wait until the end of the 2024/25 Premier Soccer League season, or make a seriously good offer, before they can get their hands on Makhaula.
